Stopping The Violence Counselling

This program is for:

  • Women who have experienced sexual assault
  • Women who have experienced violence in their relationships (this could be physical, emotional, or psychological abuse)
  • Women who have experienced abuse as a child

Women may choose between individual counselling and group work according to their needs.

Counselling takes place in a safe atmosphere in which each woman may develop an understanding of her experience and its effects on her life. A counsellor will support the woman in exploring her strengths and coping strategies, enabling her to make informed choices.  Each woman is the best judge of what she needs and what is helpful to her.

Abuse includes:

  • punches, slaps, shoving
  • threats
  • control over money
  • forced sex
  • forced isolation
  • destroying things, throwing things etc.
