Counseling
Addictions counseling is for children, youth, adults and families who have concerns about their own or someone else’s use of alcohol and drugs. Counseling is also available for those who grew up in addicted families. The service is voluntary, free of charge, and confidential.

The program helps clients develop personal treatment goals that can lead to lasting change and a healthy, balanced life. Clients are helped to gain insight into the patterns, behaviors and emotional responses associated with addiction. With this insight, the client can begin to develop new, healthy responses.
The alcohol and drug counselor can refer individuals and families to residential treatment centers (may involve some cost to the client), supportive recovery facilities, support groups such as A.A. and Alanon, and other community resources.
In 2009 the BCCSS began offering internet online addictions counseling through a contract with Edgewood Vancouver Addiction Services. The service is free of charge. Edgewood counselors offer private online web cam consultations that include a full assessment, outpatient counseling, a recovery plan and referral to additional treatment if required. Both male and female counselors are available. Referrals can be accepted from individuals, families, friends, doctors and community agencies.
